MLBB Is Going Global – M8 World Championship Heads to Europe for the First Time

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is entering its boldest year yet. At the M7 World Championship Grand Finals in Jakarta, MOONTON Games CEO Cloud Zhang unveiled the 2026 MLBB Esports Roadmap, and it signals a clear ambition: global domination.

For years, MLBB has been a Southeast Asian phenomenon. In 2026, that changes. The roadmap reveals a five-region structure, the first M-Series in Europe, debut appearances at the Asian Games and Esports Nations Cup, and a record-breaking viewership trajectory. Here is everything announced.

M8 World Championship Heads to Turkey

The headline news is the M8 World Championship location. For the first time in M-Series history, the Grand Finals will be held outside Southeast Asia. Istanbul, Turkey will host the main event in January 2027, marking MLBB’s official entry into the European market.

The Wild Card stage, however, stays in Southeast Asia. Thailand will host the M8 Wild Card, its first-ever M-Series event, giving regional teams a familiar path to the global stage.

This dual-country format reflects MOONTON’s strategy of expanding into new territories while maintaining Southeast Asia as the competitive core. Turkey’s position as a bridge between Europe and Asia makes it the ideal launchpad for European expansion .

Here is the breakdown of the 2026 esports roadmap:

Event Location Date Notes
M8 Wild Card Thailand January 2027 First M-Series event in Thailand
M8 Grand Finals Istanbul, Turkey January 2027 First M-Series in Europe
MSC & MWI Riyadh, Saudi Arabia July – August 2026 Part of Esports World Cup
Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya, Japan Sept – Oct 2026 MLBB debut as medal event
Esports Nations Cup Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Nov 23-29, 2026 32 national teams

Five-Region Structure and Championship Tour

The 2026 roadmap introduces a complete restructuring of the competitive ecosystem. MLBB Esports will now operate under a five-region model: Southeast Asia (SEA), Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA), Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA), East Asia (EA), and the Americas (AMER).

This framework unifies global competition while allowing each region to develop its own identity through tailored infrastructure and talent pathways.

At the heart of the new structure is the Championship Tour, an intercontinental tournament piloting across AMER, EA, and SEA. Designed to elevate regional competition and spotlight emerging talent, the tour creates consistent narrative and sponsorship assets across multiple markets.

MLBB on the Global Sporting Stage

2026 marks MLBB’s transition from esports to mainstream sporting legitimacy. The title has been confirmed for two major multi-sport events.

The Esports Nations Cup (ENC) 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will feature MLBB as its first confirmed title. From November 23 to 29, 32 national teams will compete under a nation-based format, placing national pride at the core of competition.

Even bigger is the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026. MLBB will debut as a medal event, running from mid-September to early October. This places MLBB alongside traditional sports in one of Asia’s most prominent multi-sport events, following its established presence at the SEA Games.

Return to Esports World Cup

MLBB will also return to the Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026 in Riyadh with two major tournaments. The Mid Season Cup (MSC) and MLBB Women’s Invitational (MWI) feature a combined $3.5 million prize pool.

The 2025 EWC saw MLBB emerge as one of the most-watched titles with over 47 million hours watched, accounting for more than 12% of total viewership across all 25 disciplines. MSC alone surpassed 3.26 million peak concurrent viewers.

MPL Malaysia Enters Partnership Era

On the regional front, MPL Malaysia will operate under a Partnership Programme starting in 2026. Eight strategic partners—including top Malaysian teams and international organizations—secure guaranteed participation in the country’s most established esports league.

Partnering teams benefit from greater long-term business stability and access to additional commercialization opportunities. This model, already successful in MPL Indonesia and MPL Philippines, reinforces Malaysia’s role in the global ecosystem.

M7 Shatters Viewership Records

The M7 World Championship, held in Jakarta from January 3-25, became the most-watched mobile esports tournament in history. The Grand Finals between Aurora Gaming PH and Indonesia’s Alter Ego peaked at over 5.68 million concurrent viewers, according to Esports Charts.

The tournament broke multiple viewership records across Indonesian, Tagalog, and Malaysian language broadcasts, as well as on TikTok Live. Global brands including Visa, Red Bull, and realme came onboard as partners, highlighting MLBB’s growing commercial appeal.

MPL Indonesia’s Dominance

Indonesia remains MLBB’s cornerstone market. MPL Indonesia has recorded over 100 million hours watched in each of its past five seasons, reinforcing the country’s role as both fan and revenue engine.

The M7 Grand Finals in Jakarta featured Indonesian Vice Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar, who praised MOONTON for infusing Indonesian culture into the Opening Ceremony and declared gaming as “a real sport”.
